Dr. Burklin has received her MD degree from the Rostov State Medical University (Rostov-on-Don, Russia) and subsequently completed internal medicine residency training at West Virginia University. She has been an academic hospitalist at Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta, GA for over 10 years and is actively involved in clinical, academic, and educational activities within the Emory Division of Hospital Medicine. Dr. Burklin also co-chairs Emory University Hospital Midtown Ethics Committee and serves as a Site Assistant Director of the Physician Assistant Student Didactic Experiential Learning Program. As an alumna of the Society Hospital Medicine Academic Hospitalist Academy in 2017, Dr. Burklin participates in facilitating lunch and learn educational sessions, case-based faculty presentations, Medical Education journal clubs, mini-core curriculum lecture series in hospital medicine, group mentoring sessions for junior faculty, and a newly arranged workshop on teaching clinical reasoning. In addition, Dr. Burklin provides supportive ethics consultations within the institution. Her specific topics of interest include promotion of medical education in hospital medicine, enhancing clinical reasoning, managing emotionally challenging patient encounters, and utilization of tools required for successful doctor-patient communication. Dr. Burklin has been involved in Society Hospital Medicine SPARK ONE project as a question writer and peer reviewer for the hospital medicine boards. She is particularly drawn to the topic of airline medicine and the role of clinicians aboard the aircraft. A list of her publications can be found upon request. Dr. Burklin lives in Atlanta, GA with spouse and two children. She enjoys spending time with family and appreciates an opportunity to volunteer at the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Atlanta Community Food Bank.
