About the Provider
T. Stephen Powell, MD, is a board-certified Family Medicine physician who received his medical education from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine followed by Family Medicine residency training also at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Dr. Powell practices full-spectrum Family Medicine to persons aged 12 and up, providing wellness exams, preventive screenings, sick visits, acute conditions, and chronic disease management with a special interest in LGBTQ health as well as addiction medicine.
Helping Patients Relax
When meeting a patient for the first time, Dr. Powell takes a distinctive approach. “I like to make a personal connection before going straight to the medicine and I have an innate ability to make the most stressful situations calm,” he says. In discussing medical issues, Dr. Powell likes to adapt to each patient’s personality. “Some people will tell you everything you need to know, others need further probing,” he says. “I’m open to any approach in making the correct diagnosis.”
Ensuring Patients Understand
Dr. Powell will make sure you understand all aspects to manage each condition appropriately. “Whether treating a bug bite or multiple chronic conditions like diabetes, I strive to educate my patients on their conditions thoroughly to achieve the best possible outcomes.”
Respecting Every Patient
As a native of Mississippi, Dr. Powell is no stranger to health disparities and his main goals are patient advocacy and education here in Georgia. Patients can trust Dr. Powell to listen and direct them to the most appropriate care at his office or within the vast Emory Healthcare network of specialists at his fingertips.
