About the Provider

Tari A. King, MD, is a renowned breast cancer surgeon who serves as chief surgical officer for the cancer service line at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University and Emory Healthcare. She is a professor and chief of the Division of Breast Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine and co-director of Winship’s Glenn Family Breast Center.

In these roles, Dr. King oversees surgical care for cancer patients and leads clinical activities, research and training in cancer surgery across Emory. She drives initiatives to enhance cancer surgery programs, practices, strategic goals and the patient experience. As a clinical and administrative leader, she ensures consistent standards and continuous improvement in cancer care. Before joining Emory, she held leadership positions at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

An accomplished physician-scientist with more than two decades of experience, Dr. King has deep expertise in breast cancer care and research. Her work spans breast cancer prevention and the molecular genetics of tumor progression, with a consistent focus on optimizing multidisciplinary treatment strategies to improve outcomes. She has authored or co-authored more than 300 scientific manuscripts in high-impact journals. Her leadership in clinical trials and service on national and international consortia, expert panels and committees have helped shape standards for breast cancer treatment. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium and is treasurer and Finance Committee chair for the Society of Surgical Oncology.
