Dr. Bowen seemed as though he did not have time for my visit. I could tell upon his entry into the room he wanted to be in and out. I did request my labs be done ahead of the visit and Dr Bowen did respond to my labs being normal in the mychart portal, but I did have other questions that I wanted to address related to my thyroid and metabolism. I did ask two questions and Dr Bowen seemed rushed to get out of the door and brushed over my questions without much concern.

Dr. Bowen explained by bone density scores in a way that I could finally truly comprehend the meaning of each. He even drew an image of the hip bone structure as a visual. He provided me with the treatment options to come up with next steps. I am so impressed that my next appointment will include another bone density scan on the same day I meet with Dr. Bowen. I will not need to wait a couple of weeks for the results. I was so put at ease by the doctor that I even became a bit emotional. I feel I am in good hands.

First visit. I came with long history of osteoporosis drugs. Doctor knew my history well. Offered xray that would give me more Information to help allay my concern about drug continuance. Clear communicator,, who knows well above the average endocrinologist, about osteoporosis and MRONJ. Don't hesitate to see this doctor for osteoporosis, he Is excellent.

I asked a question about the relationship between insulin and Metformin interaction. Explanation wasn't given, I did feel doctor was in a real hurry. Whole conversation was approximately 5-10 minutes. He was however very upbeat, positive, knowledgable and encouraging.

I liked Dr Bowen very much; he inspired confidence in me--I accepted his recommendation to take a year off from taking Alendronate once a week for my bones. He explained why very thoroughly. Asked me a lot of ?s so I felt he had learned a lot about my body and my life at this stage.

Dr. Bowen, spent about five minutes with me and quickly explained the scans of my spine and left hip. Honestly, I don't totally understand the scans. He said I need to go on Fosamax again.

Didn't acknowledge other concerns when they were mentioned to him.

He said I had a healthy body weight, even though I'm underweight according to my height and weight just taken by the nurse. Being underweight is a risk factor for osteoporosis, but he seemed unfamiliar with it. He was very knowledgeable about prescription drugs to treat osteoporosis, but seemed ignorant of HRT, even though that's a very effective osteoporosis treatment. He said that HRT wasn't his field, even though I'd think that an endocrinologist would know about hormones. He also gave me misinformation about the efficacy of weightlifting for reversing osteoporosis. He also ordered a Celiac Disease Reflexive Cascade test, even though this test is valid only for people who've eaten gluten recently, and I haven't eaten gluten for about twenty years. This test was a complete waste of blood and money, since everyone with celiac disease gets the same results from this test as a person without celiac disease, unless they've eaten gluten recently, which I haven't. In short, this doctor's actions seemed more for the benefit of drug and blood test companies than for my health.

The doctor was extremely professional and caring. We need more like him.
