About the Provider
Dr. Nazih Paul Khater joined the Department of Urology at Emory University School of Medicine as an Acting Associate Professor of Urology on January 1, 2026. He serves as Associate Program Director for Surgical Skills in the Urology Residency Program and as Director of Robotic Simulation and Innovation for the Department. Currently, his primary practice location will be based at Emory University Hospital.
Dr. Khater’s primary clinical practice focuses on robotic surgery for all genitourinary cancers of the prostate, kidney, and bladder. His expertise lies also in advanced endourology and percutaneous renal surgery for complex kidney stone disease. He employs and teaches novel percutaneous renal access techniques, emphasizing ultrasound-guided and fluoroless approaches. His academic interests strongly center on surgical education and patient-specific surgical simulation.
Prior to joining Emory, Dr. Khater served as Associate Professor of Urology and Director of Urologic Research at LSU Health Shreveport, where he was a core faculty member for eight years.
Dr. Khater has held numerous leadership roles within academic urology, including Chair of the Committee on Education and Science and 2025 President of the Louisiana Urological Society. He served as the Louisiana Alternate Representative and is a current member of the Committee on Education and Science within the SESAUA Board of Directors. Nationally, he is a member of the American Urological Association (AUA) Education Council Committee (Laparoscopy/Robotics & Urolithiasis) and serves on the Education Committee of the Endourological Society.
He is an active member of the American Urological Association, Endourological Society, and Society of Urologic Robotic Surgeons (SURS), and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Dr. Khater serves as a peer reviewer for multiple national and international journals, including the Journal of Urology and the Journal of Endourology. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in urology, endourology, and robotic surgery, and is a nationally and internationally invited lecturer, with presentations across the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
