Dr. Gary is phenomenal. He was so kind, extremely knowledgeable, and I felt safe from the minute he walked in the room to talk to me about my surgery. I grew up In a medical family, my father was an anesthesiologist for 37 years. My dad was the one who did the research and found Dr. Gary. My entire family and I were so impressed with him that there was no question I was having my surgery at Emory & he was going to do it. And there is no doubt in my mind that he was the best, he totally changed my life. I am so grateful for Dr. Gary.

Dr. Matthew Gregory was just amazing so much better than I thought he would be considering he's the best in the field. He put me at easy right away. Going in I was worried I would need surgery and he put me at easy right way. He then showed and explained what is happening around my spine. He then explained a course of action that made sound sense. In the next few months we shall meet again and discuss any changes and treatments. I look forward to seeing this amazing doctor and his incredible staff.

- 5 out of 5 starsReviewed on 12/19/2025
Dr. Gary is really great. I have the utmost confidence in his ability as a surgeon- he just did a major surgery on my cervical spine that is healing beautifully. He listened and addressed every question I had with knowledge & empathy, I felt like he completely understood that I knew this would be a long recovery, but I'm still sad and worried and wish I could just get better and be normal. And that makes a huge difference, that even though there's no magic, and I have to go through it like everyone else, he still had compassion for the part of me that just wanted magic. For whatever reason, that makes it easier for me to just keep going. Feeling heard and understood makes a scary uncomfortable situation SO much better, it makes me want to be strong. So, Dr. Gary is great. A busy doctor who took a little time to answer my concerns and suggest things he and I can do to address them. Great Emory experience. I'm so glad I chose to come here even though I live in SC.

Dr Gary and staff are awesome. So was the staff in xray
- 5 out of 5 starsReviewed on 8/14/2025
I felt very well heard when I talked about the issues I was having. I felt like the Dr. Gary was very thorough, I had x-rays before my appointment, then he added on some additional at the end, as well as 2 CT scans. And he obviously knew what he was talking about. He had a wonderful bedside manner and, like I said earlier, the most important thing ever in medicine, I felt like he heard what I was saying. He was not dismissive or trying to get me out the door. Very good experience!

Excellent discussion with Dr. Gary. I've had surgeries with him before, so I value his treatment and care. We had a great informative talk about options, and a plan for surgery going forward.
- 2 out of 5 starsReviewed on 5/10/2025
Dr Matthew explained the surgery fine but but gave no other options or showed any consideration to the life challenges after this kind of procedure. Did not have time for my questions and sent his nurse to see me. I was just another problem he had to try and fix it seems. I wonder if he gave any thought to my medical history or what would be the best for my particular situation

Dr. Gary provided me the best outcome possible and pain free from how I was feeling prior to his surgery in Sep 2024. This was my seventh Spinal surgery over the past 27 years. The results of the 3 prior lumbar surgeries over the past 10 years were ok to terrible. Dr. Gary was able to fix the issues and I awoke from surgery in tears of joy as the pain in my lumbar area was gone. He is very gifted and knows his stuff. Thank you.

I'm content with the outcome of procedure. It's the lack of communication or explanation of anything that's frustrating from main surgeon. There's not a lot of forthcoming information. You have to do all of the asking of questions and you get vague answers.

I would recommend Dr. Gary to anyone with spine issues. He was very conservative with his approach and didnt want to just jump into unnecessary surgery
- 5 out of 5 starsReviewed on 7/28/2024
Dr Gary stated that since my worst pain is in my left legs, lower and middle back and feet and since my right leg only rates a 4 on the pain scale most of the time that he chooses not to operate since it would probably only reduce my right leg pain. Any chance of lowering any pain is what I want. I would like Dr Gary to reconsider his decision not to operate.
- 3 out of 5 starsReviewed on 7/26/2024
I feel like I don't really know what exactly is wrong with me. He gave an explanation of my X-ray and maybe there was some type of communication. When I called and made the appointment I asked the scheduler exactly what Dr. Gary's specialty Was and if he could address my issue. I specifically said, "does he specialize in neurological conditions( us he a neurologist ? ) " The scheduling person assured me he was. I told her specifically about what I needed. She said, yes he was" . I'm confused why I am getting referred to someone who specializes in neurological conditions? I don't know how or why I am being sent to another location. I thought he was a one stop shop. Again I like Dr Gary but I feel like there wasn't a conversation He nor I and his staff had thst told me this. I went by info I had obtained from the staff. Again I actually enjoyed his interaction but there was never clarity on exactly what he would be doing or his role in the process. When I heard I wasn't a candidate for surgery my heart skipped a beat because I never knew that that was an option on the table. I assumed that he could, would address and fix any issue. I feel like I should have been informed from someone that he was only going to or able to help me if I was a surgery candidate. Now I feel I am starting over again. I am glad I was able to schedule an early appointment with him this week. I feel if I would have had to wait a month or two to schedule a follow up I would have been. Extremely upset. This pain I am having is only getting worse. And my back was literally bulging thru my shirt from spasms but we never even got to that point of him lifting up my shirt to see it. Once the dust settled and I made it ho e I realized that I would be seeing the provider I thought I would be seeing in the first place. And that is a neurologist not a surgical neurologist. For this I am so confused on everyone's role and not confident in the next process. I am just frustrated I wish the roles and responsibilities would have been addressed at the first line of communication bc if it would have then I possibly would have chosen another provider. Again, not bc of his manner or hoe I was treated bc I was treated extremely well. But, more so on expertise and knowledge of my particular situation and problem.

The PA seemed rushed; however, she did listen and answer questions. Dr. Gary is excellent with his patient care, he explained findings of the MRI, and xrays. He took plenty of time to explain the proposed surgery. He answered my husband and my questions. He did not seem rushed. He did not ask if I wanted surgery during my appointment. He said that this was a big decision and that I should go home and talk about it with my family.
