About Ms. Blackburne
Ms. Blackburne received her Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Long Island University. She received a Master in Clinical Health Services with a concentration in Public Health from the University of Washington.
Ms. Blackburne’s special interests are diabetes, hypertension and women’s health, including mental health.
Cheering for her patients’ good health
In her first visit with a patient, Ms. Blackburne likes to listen. “We’ll have a conversation, develop a rapport,” she says. “It’s important a patient feels heard. I’ll ask questions in between, but I want to hear what’s going on with them.”
As a physician assistant, she will order tests, prescribe medications and refer patients to specialists, as needed. She also advises patients on lifestyle changes that will help improve their chronic health problems. “I am a cheerleader for them, helping them with their health goals like eating healthier and losing weight,” she explains.
Open, honest, frank discussions
Ms. Blackburne will speak frankly about the risks of chronic health problems. “I’m very open and honest, with compassion, in these discussions,” she says. “Patients need to know how serious it is so they follow my advice. I want them to be well-informed so they make good decisions.”
She will outline steps toward healthy eating and weight loss, providing solid information. “It’s important that patients are well-informed when they make decisions. Lifestyle is critical to chronic conditions, and I will guide them in how to make good choices -- at the grocery store, at home, in their everyday lives.”
Holistic approach to women’s health
As a women’s health specialist, Ms. Blackburne conducts all female screenings and educates women on their risk for heart disease. And if she senses a patient’s mood has changed, she will ask, “Is everything OK,” and often the floodgates open, she says. “Many women need an opportunity to express what’s going on in their lives.”
Physical and mental health are both important in overall health, says Ms. Blackburne. Too many people, however, put their health on the back burner. “I remind them that self-care, both physical and mental care, is very important.”
Stress reduction is often a component of her advice. “I’m very big on meditation, or advising therapy if needed,” she says.

Mrs Blackburne is the best that Emory has. She is kind, cares about her patients and always has their best interest in mind. My brother wouldn't come to Emory if it wasn't for her. We love her dearly.

Dr. Blackburne was attentive, compassionate and extremely supportive. She took her time as we together explored the most viable options to address my issues with pain management. She thoroughly explained in detail the benefits, side effects, and any possible drug interactions of the pain medications available to me. Dr. Blackburne listened to my concerns and explored each one to the best of her ability. She was very well versed in her knowledge of opiate based medications. Reporting the facts and information allowed me to make a more informed decision on what medication would be best suited for me at this time. I am truly grateful for the superior service once again rendered by an Emory Physician.

My husband and I felt like we finally came across a great provider in Mrs. Blackburn. We found out she leaving to a greater calling and I for one am sad. She has been so attentive to what you're going through or feeling. She listens, she is the best provider outside of my OBGYN that I have had treat me and my needs. She was meant for this career and she needs to host conferences so other providers that are not on her level can leave with a great deal information to implement in their work. Someone has great shoes to fill that going to be her replacement. We wish her the best and will definitely miss her!
