I specifically told the doctor that this was the first I was hearing about a proposed surgery, and he wanted me to consent to getting the process started. Of course, he didn't tell me I HAD to have the surgery, but did everything but. I even mentioned that the need for surgery hadn't been brought up by the transplant coordinator or my current doctor, and he just implied that it happens all of the time that they don't. These are his colleagues, and he was more than ready to throw others under the bus at my surprise that this hadn't been discussed with me. I finally told him that I needed time to process and talk to my care team, but I understood that I might be back, and he said "I know you will." I'm not sure if it was a busy morning or what, but he has terrible bedside manner. I've been at Emory extensively since I was 13, and now I'm 40, and he stood out as being smug and impatient. He did ask if there were any questions, but when I proposed them, it certainly didn't seem like he was listening with any interest about my concerns.
