About the Provider

Dr. Sarmiento's innovative treatments include a minimally-invasive approach to liver surgery (the only one in the state and one of very few in the country) and laparoscopic surgery of the pancreas. With Dr. Edward Lin, Dr. Sarmiento developed unique techniques for laparoscopic-assisted formal liver resections, such as the performance of laparoscopic hepatectomy through incisions that are much smaller than those of a standard open procedure. Originally from Colombia, Dr. Sarmiento came to the U.S. in 1995 for further surgical training at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, where he joined the faculty once his training was completed.

Dr. Sarmiento and his team are conducting clinical research related to several aspects of hepatopancreatic biliary surgery, including the coagulation consequences of major liver resection, the endocrine implications of partial pancreatic resection in nondiabetic patients, and simplified clinical pathways for complex pancreatic resections like the Whipple procedure.

Provider seen concerned but in a hurry, also really didn't explain a little more about doing a surgery And if he feel im strong enough for a surgery rught now. The other team didn't feel I was strong enough at this time. Didn't show concern about if this draining substance should be this color or clear and why its getting thicker in the line , im worried about it.

In light of the considerable pain I'm experiencing post-op, I would have appreciated more than an incision check. The first Dr that came in did order bloodwork and listened to my concerns. Dr. Sarmiento came In next, didn't even look at the Incision and said everything is fine - maybe spent a total of one minute with me. I left wondering if I was just being a baby and, if everything was attached properly and holding. I understand that this surgery is probably routine for Dr. Sarmiento but it wasn't for me.
