Dr. Roccaro saved my life and I can't say enough good things about him. I had untreated multiple autoimmune liver diseases that were quickly getting worse. Regular GI doctors didn't understand the conditions well enough to treat me properly and were the reason my liver diseases had gone untreated for over a decade. As my liver numbers continued to decline and my symptoms worsened, I began to genuinely fear for my life. That's when I started looking for an actual hepatologist, rather than just another GI who couldn't understand the problem or how to treat It. I eventually found Dr. Roccaro during that search. I'd read about his credentials and patient reviews and realized that he was the doctor I needed. It took a full year trying to get the proper referrals needed in order to become his patient. And then a difficult 2 hour trip into Atlanta to see him in person that first time.Upon meeting him and hearing his take on my conditions and his plans for treatment, I realized he was worth everything I'd gone through to become his patient. I also have very particular medication intolerances that made the first line treatments undoable. But Dr. Roccaro was able to work around those issues and got me on medications that I was not only able to tolerate, but also worked VERY well at treating my liver diseases, keeping my liver from reaching the point of cirrhosis that I was getting dangerously close to before his treatment plan. From the start he took my concerns seriously rather than dismissing me as other, less informed doctors, had done before. Hepatology is his specialty and thus he could see things in my blood work and biopsy results that all my other GI doctors had overlooked. He was able to understand that sometimes liver biopsies can miss things that serology can clarify, and he was able to confirm the diagnosis I'd been suspecting.Dr. Roccaro also made me feel like a partner in my care rather than a subordinate, like other doctors had made me feel countless times before. If I noticed a particular pattern and brought it to his attention, he'd consider it seriously and we'd test my theory together, like a team. And when it would tern out that I was right, he'd acknowledge that and adjust things accordingly. It felt really validating to have a doctor who not only cares about me as a patient, but also respects me as a person and takes my experiences into account rather than dismissing them as too many other doctors tend to do. I'm doing SO much better now under his care, no longer afraid that I might die of liver failure. For the first time in over a decade, I feel like I have a true ally in this fight and I couldn't be more thankful for Dr. Roccaro.

I'm not sure what I think but that's probably normal for everyone who's just getting started with this treatment. I like the fact he's straight forward and honest about what's to be expected and just as it has been it's still going to be a hard road ahead but that's when he told me keep doing what I have been doing and I'll get there. I Was very confused about when I quit drinking and had thought it'd been a lot longer than what it has been. Either way I can't remember that exact day but I think it's better if don't because I would be disappointed in myself. I feel really good about doc and look forward to showing him I can do this and my family.

My experience with Dr. Roccaro was good about discussion my medical issue. However, he told me at the beginning of the visit that we did not need to even have this visit. He asked me if I proactively scheduled this appointment or if it was made after my previous appointment with him. I told Dr. Roccaro that I only made the appointment after sending a portal message asking if a follow up was needed and was told via portal message that it was. So the visit was basically a waste of time and money. It only lasted 5 minutes. Again, Dr. Roccaro was very pleasant and professional during the visit. My suggestion is to have better communication between the physician and the persons answering the portal messages to prevent this from occurring.

Wow! What an amazing, intelligent doctor that Dr. Giorgio is! Really knowledgeable, but also put me at ease about the reason I was in his office! Some doctors have the "God-like" attitude where they feel the patient is beneath them or can't understand their words or explanations, but not Dr. Giorgio!! I immediately felt relaxed in what was a serious appointment when he came in! And took time out of what I am sure is a very busy day to listen to me then answer questions in a manner I understood and gained information from! Thank You, Dr. Giorgio!!
