About the Provider

Dr. Tong received his medical training at Duke Medical School and his public health training at UNC Chapel Hill and was elected to the AOA honor society. He then did his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Emory University. He stayed for training in nephrology at Emory and did research in the lab of Dr. James Tumlin, studying the pathway by which steroids stimulate calcineurin phosphatase, the enzyme targeted by transplantation drugs such as cyclosporine and prograf. He has stayed on faculty in the renal division after finishing his fellowship and is currently studying polyoma virus BK, which affects kidney transplant recipients.

Studying various aspects of BK virus in kidney transplant recipients as well as in a related mouse model of polyoma virus infection.

Dr. Tong's clinical focus is in renal transplantation.

Interpretive Services

To provide the highest quality of care, interpreter services may be utilized to ensure proper communication of medical information for deaf, hard-of-hearing, and non-English speaking patients or family members.
