I met with Dr. Rye and an assistant. Both were very focused and concerned about my sleep disorders and helping me with a plan to improve my quality of sleep and quality of life. I was especially having problems with titrating the medications I am taking to control my restless legs symptoms during sleep (nighttime and napping) and breakthrough episodes during daytime sitting (e.g., traveling in a car or airplane, sitting in a movie theater, concert or sporting events). I left my visit with Dr. Rye feeling very positive and optimistic about the medications and clinical plan Dr. Rye put in place for me. I first saw Dr. Rye in 2005, and he has been very important over the years with helping me maintain optimism and hope while coping with my sleep disorders. I am very thankful for his support and expertise.

I highly recommend Dr. Rye. He practices both the art and science of medicine. He has been willing to deal with me, and I have a very esoteric group of symptoms and conditions. And I think most professions prefer an easier set of conditions to tackle. I am so grateful to have access to the care.

Dr. Rye talks way too much about himself and his health. He does not do it to illustrate a point. It is almost as if he can't stop himself from complaining about his life and his medical problems. He needs a remedial course in how to relate to patients. For these reasons I can not refer people to him. He may be an esteemed researcher, but he is not a caring clinician.

This appointment went so poorly that I finally chose to switch doctors, which I had been considering for a while. Dr. Rye was extremely unprofessional and rude. He asked me about taking medications that he had never prescribed, frequently forgot information about me, left the room abruptly while I was speaking, talked over me when I tried to voice concerns or ask questions, and made bizarre non-sequiter comments towards my personal appearance that left me feeling confused and disoriented. At the end of the appointment he said that it took so long "because we're all about DEI here" and "everyone with an XX chromosome wanted an appointment today" which I can only interperet as a thinly-veiled racist and misogynist comment.
