Daniel D. Dressler, MD, MSc, SFHM, FACP is Professor of Medicine, Hospital Medicine Associate Division Director for Education, Director of Internal Medicine Teaching Services at Emory University Hospital, Associate Program Director for the J. Willis Hurst Internal Medicine Residency Program, and Medical Student Semmelweis Society Advisor at Emory University’s School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. He was founding Director of Hospital Medicine at Emory University Hospital. He completed his undergraduate training at Duke University in Physics, and his medical training at Emory University School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Emory University, followed by a fellowship in Hospital Medicine and a Master of Science in Clinical Research. He is board certified in internal medicine with Focused Practice certification in Hospital Medicine.
In the Department of Medicine Dr. Dressler directs the Evidence-Based Medicine curriculum and the Megacode/Resuscitation training for the internal medicine residency program. He also serves on the department’s Residency Leadership Committee and Residency Clinical Competency Committee. He was awarded the Department of Medicine’s inaugural Educator Impact Award, was inducted into the inaugural class of the Department’s Academy of Medical Educators, and serves as the Chair of its Executive Council.
Dr. Dressler serves on the Editorial Board for the journal Hospital Medicine Practice and is an editor of Principles and Practice of Hospital Medicine textbook. He is also Associate Editor for the Journal of Hospital Medicine and Associate Editor for NEJM Journal Watch Hospital Medicine. He served as co-editor of the original Core Competencies in Hospital Medicine, and has >100 invited presentations at national, international and regional venues. Additionally, Dr. Dressler has served on dozens of national committees, served as course director for more than 15 national and regional conferences—including the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) Annual Meeting, and board member and officer for the national organization. In 2014 he received SHM’s national Excellence in Teaching Award.
