About the Provider
Charles J Bailey, MD, RPVI, FSVS is an assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, within the Department of Surgery of the Emory University School of Medicine. In addition to his clinical role, Dr. Bailey serves as medical director of the Limb Preservation-Peripheral Arterial Disease program and co-director of the Vascular Patient Centered Disease Team at Emory Heart and Vascular.
His expertise in traditional open vascular surgery and modern less invasive endoluminal therapies is focused on the treatment of carotid artery stenosis, abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissection, mesenteric and visceral occlusive disease, as well as aortoiliac and lower extremity peripheral arterial disease. He is regarded as a key opinion leader and a sought-after speaker on the management of carotid artery stenosis, drug-eluting therapies for peripheral arterial disease, and the open and endovascular treatments for both acute and chronic limb threatening ischemia. As medical director of the Emory Heart and Vascular Limb Preservation Program, his research efforts are concentrated on the optimal management of critical limb threatening ischemia, the role of drug-eluting endoluminal balloon angioplasty and stents for complex peripheral arterial disease, the endovascular management of acute limb ischemia, as well as the development of a novel system-wide protocol to expedite limb ischemia care.
Dr. Bailey received his medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine in his hometown of Detroit, MI. He is a double board-certified surgeon, completing his general surgery training here at the Emory University School of Medicine, with a vascular surgery fellowship at the University of South Florida. Dr. Bailey joins the Emory faculty after a decade of practice in Tampa, FL and brings not only an expertise in vascular surgical care but extensive leadership experience having created and led the multi-disciplinary Limb Preservation Program in the Tampa General Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute, as well as serving previously as the director of their Vascular Center of Excellence. Communication and compassion with patients and their families is central to Dr. Bailey's vascular practice.
