About the Provider

Carlos Timaran, MD, is professor of surgery and co-director of the Emory Aortic Center in Atlanta, GA. He is an internationally recognized expert in advanced endovascular techniques. Dr. Timaran earned his medical degree from the University of Cauca Faculty of Health Sciences in Colombia in 1991. He completed surgical residencies at the National University of Colombia and the University of Tennessee Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in vascular surgery at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He joined UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX, in 2004 where he served as the Chief of Endovascular Surgery. He earned a master’s degree in clinical sciences with distinction from UT Southwestern in 2008. Dr. Timaran is dual certified in vascular surgery and general surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Timaran is an expert in the minimally invasive treatment of aortic diseases. Under his direction, the Emory Aortic Center is now one of the top 10 aortic centers in the U.S. and reached a point where most aortic pathologies can be repaired using total endovascular techniques. For this purpose, Dr. Timaran now offers repairs not only using currently approved devices, but also the full gamut of pre-manufactured fenestrated and/or branched off-the-shelf and custom-made devices through several industry and physician-sponsored Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) protocols. The least invasive nature of these procedures has resulted not only in quick recovery, but improved outcomes for both high-risk and conventional-risk patients, for which protocols are available.
