About the Provider

John Horton, MD, grew up in Louisiana and completed his education at LSU, with advanced training at the University of Kentucky and Emory University. Dr. Horton cares for healthy pregnant patients seeking patient‑centered obstetric care, as well as individuals coming in for routine annual well‑person exams. He also works closely with pregnant patients who have complex medical histories, helping coordinate multidisciplinary care to ensure safe, comprehensive support throughout pregnancy. In addition to office‑based care, Dr. Horton performs gynecologic surgery, including procedures to evaluate and manage abnormal uterine bleeding. He emphasizes a balanced approach, offering both medical and surgical options so patients can choose care that best fits their needs and lives.

As Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Dr. Horton is committed to creating a cohesive experience across all practice sites. His goal is to ensure care is respectful, individualized, and seamlessly coordinated through a unified medical record and treatment system. Whether supporting a birth at one of our maternity centers or planning robotic surgery, Dr. Horton and the care team prioritize clear communication and compassionate, coordinated care.

Raised in a farming community of just 2,000 people, Dr. Horton values connection, community, and knowing his neighbors. That sense of community, combined with a love for city life, led him to Atlanta, where he lives in Midtown with his partner and enjoys the city’s parks, culture, and vibrant activities.

Dr. Horton, is a warm person, makes the consultation pleasant since he pays attention to the details that I explained to him, I went to the consultation for symptoms of less pause, and I had to explain very well since my first language is Spanish, there was no need for an interpreter since Dr. Horton spoke to me in an easy to understand way, He patiently explained to me all the treatments that are available for the menopause and which was indicated for my symptoms. After reviewing my entire medical history. He also told me that in a month of treatment, I should write to him through My Chart to find out how the medications had worked for me, both well or badly, if some symptoms did not improve he would prescribe other medications or adjust the docis. To end the appointment was satisfactory for me, because first I felt listened to and that I had solutions to my problem. I recommend Dr. Horton 100%

I've had a really wonderful experience with Dr. Horton - I came to him from another clinic for a second opinion and I feel like he's throughly listened to my concerns and come up with testing and treatment options even when my symptoms / diagnosis haven't been straightforward.

Dr. John was so kind and caring. I had a panic attack when I found out that I needed a colposcopy. He explained the procedure and didn't make me do anything I didn't want to do. He offered me another day to come back and get the procedure when I felt more comfortable. I really appreciated that.

I was very impressed by Dr. Horton. I'm a relatively complex patient with some rarer medical conditions and I felt like he did a wonderful job of understanding the full picture of my health, listening to my concerns, and laying out my options. I scheduled my appointment only an hour before it happened and he still took time to read up on my prior health history.

Dr was in a rush for my appointment. No explanation of lab work what so ever. I asked for a full panel lab test, but I have no idea what I was tested for. Doctor just wrote in the portal "all lab work looks normal. No need for intervention". What is that even mean, what was tested, what was normal? No minimal effort was put into clear communication with the patient. I won't be returning to see Dr. Horton

I was a bit stressed coming in due to some medical issues I've been having, and Dr. Horton was very patient/kind and listened carefully and made me feel much better just being heard. He also gave me lots of information about possible treatments for my issues and was very upfront about a range of options, data on their effectiveness for different users, and factors I might consider going forward. It was empowering to feel like he took my concerns seriously and considered me capable of evaluating the pros and cons of potential treatments, while providing me with a helpful framework to do so. I greatly appreciate it!
