About the Provider
Dr. Charles Staley joined the Emory faculty in 1995 after completing his surgical oncology fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center. His clinical practice focuses on surgical treatment of stomach, esophageal, appendiceal, colorectal, and peritoneal surface malignancies. His research focuses on translational studies and novel clinical trials in gastrointestinal cancers. He has investigated gene therapy for metastatic colon cancer, radiofrequency ablation with intra-arterial chemotherapy for patients with colorectal liver metastases, and neoadjuvant chemoradiation with the goal of maximizing sphincter preservation in the treatment of rectal cancer. His current investigations include exploring methods of using nanotechnology to diagnose and treat pancreatic and breast cancer with such colleagues as Dr. Lily Yang.
Dr. Staley coordinates national efforts for clinical cancer research as a principle investigator for clinical trials for the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group; as chair of the Vizient UHC Cancer Center Network Steering Committee, which oversees a national network of approximately 125 cancer centers nationally; and as co-principal investigator of the Winship Cancer Institute location of the National Cancer Institute's National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN). The NCTN serves as the NCI's primary infrastructure for conducting phase II and phase III cancer clinical trials.

Dr Staley was very informed of my situation with stomach cancer - he was prepared to discuss CT scan without referring to a computer screen to read notes - he had two options that were discussed and he gave me his opinion on which option should really be folllowed but he left the decision to me I asked in his medical opinion based on his experience with stomach cancer h cancer which route would be best for my situation

I don't feel adequately informed and educated about how t o manage my prolapsed stoma, why there is sharp pain at output, why stoma bands and sutures (surgical procedures) seemed to, or may have, contributef to the prolapsed stoma.

Dr Charles Staley is my oncologist. He saved my life. At UAB I was told I had 3 months to live in early 2020. Thanks to dr Staley I am still here and got clear scans yesterday. He is a remarkable doctor, a compassionate person and I am so grateful and thankful I found him. HE IS THE BEST!!!

I came to the Winship Clinic five years ago because of Dr. Staley's reputation; his "down-to-earth" manner and wealth of knowledge were exactly what I needed. I truly was blessed to meet this kind provider whose positivity was encouraging. I am so lucky that all of my scans were clean, and I have "graduated" from Dr. Staley's care!

Really appreciated Dr. Staley. Came to Emory for a second opinion and Dr. Staley was very knowledgeable, personable, and helpful
- 5 out of 5 starsReviewed on 9/12/2024
Dr.Stanley was very PROFESSIONAL and KNOWLEDGEABLE of the treatment.
- 3 out of 5 starsReviewed on 6/20/2024
The doctor was very short in the visit and didn't spend much time explaining things. Did ask if we had questions but didn't really explain much about the next steps besides saying I needed two tests done before the surgery. Nothing on if I would need to come in after the tests to go over results or what all the surgery would entail on his end of things.

Took extra care to restate and confirm the specific issue and examine me thoroughly

Dr Staley and his team are amazing! They have great bedside manor and treat patients with care and concern. They were through in explaining my pathology report and what the next steps were in my treatment. Since I live in Birmingham he arranged for me to see a Dr at UAB to discuss chemo options. The next morning I received a cash from UAB with an appointment set up with a former Dr from Emory who is now at UAB
